Skeleton Crew
Falcons,
FBN ran on a skeleton crew today due to the 5th grade Extravaganza this morning in the cafeteria...Thanks to Ms. Cole for helping out today. At the Extravaganza, 5th graders learned about the various Fine Arts opportunities available here at Long....such as Band and Orchestra.

Maya Angelous's autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, is the fist non-fiction work by an African American woman to make the best-seller list. She also wrote and read her poem "On the Pulse of the Morning" at President Bill Clinton's inauguration.

In 5th place, Ms. Powell...in 4th place, Ms. Cole....in 3rd Place, Coach Nokes....in 2nd Place, Ms. Little......and in 1st Place, Mr. VanBemmel. Congrats to these teachers and their classes.

Pasta For Pennies
Falcons,
NJHS is working to prevent cancer by raising money...."Pasta for Pennies." The winning class after two weeks will earn a pasta party from the Oliver Garden. Today, is "Keep an Eye on Cancer" so we hope you brought your ipod or mp3 player to play at lunch.
Celebration Wheel: Mr. Magnis recognized Dustin Carrera, Mansoor Kahn, Claudia Lay, and Alexis Rogue...congrats to these students for their great work.
Black History Month Fact: Ray Charles Robinson, a musical genius and pioneer in blending gospel and the blues, shortened his name to "Ray Charles" to prevent confusion with the great boxer Sugar Ray Robinson. He was one of the first inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at its inaugural ceremony in 1986.

todays black history fact is......On this date in 1990,Nelson Mandela,leader of movement for democracy in South Africa and was released from prison after 27 years. He was an instrumental leader against apartheid.

today's black history month fact is....... for her performance in the movie,The Color Purple,Oprah Winfrey was nominated for an academy award. Ms Winfrey is 1 of the wealthiest women in America!
book club: there is a book club meeting 2morrow in room 51 @ 4
carnations and valentine cards will be on sale this week for $1
crime stoppers: this week a silver bag with a black ipod was taken from the athletic room.
on tues. a black verizon envy 2 cell fone fell out of a students pocket and not returned. and on mon an unknown person stole $79 out of a students purse. if u have any info about this pls repost 2 mrs.guin or officer freeman

this month is black history month. the black history month fact of the day is...... George L. Johnson and David M Moore opend quality croutons in chicage, illionis in 1994 to provide croutons to mcdonalds restraunts throughout thr entire country!! i LOVE croutons!
